Book Synopsis:
A Life Cycle, Nicole Asherah’s debut book, follows the introspective process of transformation after emotional hardship through poetic language. Asherah serves as a guide through the sections of her book while also allowing the readers to see the words as their own. A Life Cycle is broken into sections after a traumatic event that represents the final tipping point. What follows is The Shattering: a deep dive into the suffering of fully losing one’s sense of self and safety, The Healing: a journey through processing layers of trauma to reach the root hurts of childhood, Light Shines Through: an exploration of reigniting hope and learning to find joy, and The Loving: a discovery of what love is and how the act of loving has much more to do with one’s self than the person receiving the love.
This book transcends the genre of poetry because of its ability to universally help people process and name feelings that often elude words. This book is for anyone developing, hurting, healing, or becoming new versions of themselves. She knows this because that is exactly what she was doing when she wrote it: healing childhood trauma, processing a sexual assault, and learning how to experience joy.
Reviews:
“Artist and adventurer Asherah delivers an entrancing collection of poems that transport readers through the ebbs and flows of pain and grief toward eventual healing and regrowth…where she excels the most: wrenching pained emotion from the heart and then intensely examining it in poems of psychological weight and insight, always exuding vulnerability and resilience. Overall, A Life Cycle is a thoughtful anthology that can be read in one sitting but will stick with readers for a lifetime.”
– BookLife by Publisher’s Weekly
“One of Asherah’s strongest suits as a poet is in where she ends her poems. Many of these endings took my breath away with their profound emotional and intellectual resonance…poems that tackle subjects we think we’ve thought, talked and read about a hundred times over and yet, this time, we suddenly “get it” in a way we never did before.”
– BookTrib
“It’s the poet’s refusal to simplify the contradictory web of human existence that gives this book its power. A compassionate and accessible poetry cycle about loving oneself in the aftermath of violation.“
– Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
“Filled with quiet reflections, A Life Cycle, is a lovely poetry collection that explores the depths of grief and the struggle of healing…All in all, the compilation chronicles an authentic progression from grief and trauma forward, made tangible through its impeccable use of literary devices…Silence is manifested through the poem’s occasional avoidance of naming its topics, contributing to the sense that grief and love are often too big for words.”
– Foreword Clarion Reviews
“[A Life Cycle] is a short read but it is like visiting your therapist…Nicole Asherah’s writing style is not just unique but also hauntingly beautiful.”
– Reedsy
“Poetry is also about voice, and here is where Asherah’s gifts are on full display…you won’t be sorry to have spent a few hours with this witty, deeply felt book.”
– Indie Reader
“A Life Cycle: A Guide to Healing and Rediscovering Yourself by Nicole Asherah is a thoughtful, resonant collection of poems that searches the human soul to uncover depths of trauma and instill a sense of hope.”

Author Bio:
Nicole Asherah is an artist, poet, and photographer who discovered her work has the ability to help herself and others heal their emotional and psychological wounds. The University of Roehampton in England offered her a position in their creative writing poetry masters program despite not having a bachelor’s degree because of her ability to describe the abstract feeling of emotions in a way that resonates with all types of people. Asherah uses this skill to help others come closer to the emotions they experience in order for them to name, process, and release them.
